Hi guys! Here is a prestige hierarchy of most popular car brands and sub-brands made as a personal project.
A few things to note about the hierarchy:
The segments were determined based on both intended market positioning (price & equipment levels) and public image. The actual quality of the end products has little weighting. E.g. Maseratis may very well be inferior products compared to Merc/BMW/Audi but the overall perceived prestige of the Maserati brand itself is higher, reflected in their pricing and marketing.
Sub-brands are underlined with parent companies in brackets. E.g. M(BMW)
Brands are judged as a whole, rather than by individual models. E.g. Porsche produces supercars and hypercars but most Porsches are within the premium luxury segment and between 150k and 400k AUD.
Relative prestige within a segment is shown with more prestigious brands in higher rows. Brands that are similarily prestigious are listed in the same row in alphabetical order.
Price is listed in AUD and USD according to estimated MSRP cutoffs for each segment in Australia and the USA taking into account taxes, rather than by exchange rates.
