2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive Sampled on Ignition

Purists thought Porsche was committing sacrilege when it announced the Panamera four-door back in 2009, but many eventually got over it and probably even bought one. Now in its second generation, the Panamera benefits from an updated look and a laundry list of technical improvements. But is it the car Porsche should’ve built? Jonny Lieberman ventures to find out on this episode of Ignition.

The 2017 Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive makes 550 hp and 567 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8, which is routed to all four wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The “Executive” designation means this is the long-wheelbase model, which adds 5.9 inches between the wheels to increase rear legroom. But just because this Panamera has a luxuriously spacious back seat doesn’t mean you can’t drive it like a Porsche. A rear steering system provides sharp handling, and the twin-turbo V-8 accelerates the Panamera Turbo to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds – which is more than impressive when you consider the car weighs nearly 5,000 pounds.

After going over the history of the Panamera and some of its features, Lieberman brings out a car that’s similar in concept that you might not expect. Check out the full episode below to see what it is, and to hear Lieberman’s thoughts on the 2017 Porsche Panamera.
