Mercedes-Benz And Garia Wants To Make Golf Cart Look More Like A Car

With the exception of a small number, golf cart generally looks the same. You know, the same, boring boxy cart with an impossibly straight bench seat for two, has room for two full-size golf bags around the back, and perhaps, a couple of cup holders. Already, that sounds beyond boring, doesn't it? However, that may change, if Mercedes-Benz and Danish golf cart maker Garia have their way. And the fairway-going vehicle that's going to bring about the change would be the Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car which it creators billed as "a real sports car."

Normally, you don't even need to tell people it is "a real sports car" (if it is a car), but in the case of Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car, they have to, because it is a golf cart. Hell, they don't even want to insult it by calling it a 'cart', and hence, the words 'golf car' was used but that's probably only the right thing to do because this beauty does really looks like a car, or to be more specific, looked like a squashed Smart Fortwo (we kid you not, just look at its front end).

A collab between pointed star marque and Garia, Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car was born out of the desire to make golf cart look, you know, sportier. Not that you are going to race it on the fairway… ok, maybe I guess you could indulge in your need for speed and flout the rules occasionally, but hey, you didn't hear from us on this.

As a golf cart, or rather a golf car, it is naturally, electric-powered but befitting its 'sports car' status, it gets some pretty dope automobile touches like, for example, a proper steering wheel wrapped in leather, five-spoke sports wheels, front disc brakes, a carbon-fiber roof, an integrated rear spoiler (classy!), and even a carbon-fiber diffuser (again, not that it has a use for it).

Creature comfort comes in the form of a sculpted bench seat (sorry, no Recaro here, though) and under it, is a refrigerator to keep your on-course beverages nice and cold. Over where the dash supposed to be, it gets a 10-inch high-resolution touch display that dishes out the vehicle's stats, so you'd be in the know. Unfortunately, ICE, or in-car entertainment is not part of the setup.

Last but not least, is the golf bag compartment, which, not surprisingly, remains at the rear of the vehicle like any regular golf carts but instead of an upright design, it is angled outwards to facilitate easy access. Now, that's innovation! If you golf with a golf cart, you will know the struggle of retrieving clubs when the bag is elevated on the vehicle and upright. Seriously, why haven't anybody thought about this until now?

The Mercedes-Benz Style Edition Garia Golf Car first made its appearance at the British Open at Royal Troon in Scotland this year and have since graced a couple of other prestigious events like the Monterey Car Week and the Monaco Yacht Show. While it is real, I wouldn't hold my breath for one to appear in my local golf clubs cos' no words on when this fairway sports car will see fruition. In the meantime, enjoy the images and a promo video in this post.
