In Formula 1, the DRS (drag reduction system) is used by drivers when they want to overtake an opponent and need to get extra BHS (brake horsepower) to get an edge over a very similar car in front of them. The DRS changes the formation of the rear wing so that air particles have to travel a reduced surface area, which lowers drag and downdrift.
