Alright apes,
I have a plan for keeping a low profile while still satisfying my need for speed. There is a long standing tradition in the world of fast and expensive cars called the Sleeper.
A Sleeper looks just like a regular family owned vehicle or maybe a little sporty that would cost you anywhere from a few grand to say $50,000 but nothing anyone would expect to go fast. Someone sees you driving casually down the street in this thing and there is no way they are thinking that ape just sold his GME shares for millions of dollars a piece on the way down.
The real fuckery of a sleeper is revealed when you look under the hood. We are talking about engine swaps, aftermarket super or turbo charging, sequential transmissions for paddle shifting, high end clutch for monster launches.
Say you want to pick out a humble, nice looking car but you still want to be able to hang with the Lambo’s when you pull up beside one on a track or a drag strip (never at a stop light on a public road, that would be illegal street racing.) Just find a good project car shop and get them to build you a Sleeper!
A couple extreme examples for fun:
Here’s one that Chrysler made themselves - a minivan with their 700 horsepower hellcat engine in it!
My personal favorites are professional Rally cars; specifically the Rallycross supercars. These things have 600 horsepower in tiny little hatchbacks such as the Audi S1 or the Volkwagen Polo, throw a massive turbo in there, an AWD sequential gearbox and a roll-cage in there and drop all the fancy racing decals and you have yourself a quaint little hatchback that will do 0-60mph faster than an F1 car!
I’m thinking a car that looks like this;

but handles like one of these;

credit to Andreas Bakkerud. That’s his car. #BakkerudBLUE!! Post MOASS, I want to see if I can get his crew to build me an S1 sleeper. I will also be at all of the World Rallycross events wearing a GME related t-shirt. If anyone else wants to check out what I believe is the best motor sport on the planet, we can meetup!
A final example was a guy in my town who took an old Subaru Forester SUV and swapped in the turbo charged STI engine and transmission, upgraded the turbo and fuel injection system to turn what looked like a soccer mom vehicle into a V8 killer (on the track again of course). I don’t have a picture of that one but you get the idea.
Bonus: if you want to get an idea for a Sleeper modification that is very popular and works with a wide variety of vehicles, google ‘LS Swap’. An LS motor is a very compact V8 engine that is relatively simple to drop into most vehicles. Due to its popularity, there are a lot of aftermarket part manufacturers making adaptors and things to make the process fairly easy and reliable (also cheaper) for your mechanic to get it running!
Sleepers can be a lot of fun especially when taking a friend out for a drive or embarrassing the guy in his Corvette or even a Lambo if you really go all out on your stealth rocket.
Hope my ape brothers and sister enjoyed this weekend fluff piece. I have seen a few wise post about keeping a low profile post MOASS so I wanted to share my thoughts on having fun cars while still being discreet. As a car guy, I will probably have to buy a Lambo or a Ferarri post MOASS. Maybe I can trailer it to a different city or a track once in a while to bomb around but I will absolutely have a wicked Sleeper for my daily bombing around town.
TL;DR Do you like fast cars but don’t want the whole town to know you’re a millionaire? Buy a regular car and jack it to the tits with more horsepower than the GME 🚀 will have when it blasts off to the 🌕! Not only can you build a street legal car that accelerates faster than an F1 car but you can look discreet while driving it... at least until you dump the clutch and leave everyone in a cloud of burnt rubber.
