Ford to Mustang Mach-E Buyers: Sorry About Delays, Here’s $1,000

UPDATE 3/4/2021: The statement Ford initially provided to MotorTrend has been revised:

Quality is a top priority. For Mustang Mach-E customers who have experienced delays receiving their vehicles, we are providing an additional 250 kilowatt-hours of complimentary charging on the FordPass Charging Network. This applies to approximately 4,500 customers, including about 1,500 of whom have already received their Mach-E. In addition, Ford will provide $1,000 toward the purchase of a Mustang Mach-E for approximately 150 customers who have experienced more than one delay due to quality checks.

The article below has been updated to reflect Ford’s updated statement.

Ford knows customers are impatient to get their hands on the Mustang Mach-E electric SUVs they’ve ordered, and learning that there are delays impacting said deliveries is sure to cause some frustration. Hoping to get out ahead of the issue, Ford has sent emails to those who’ve ordered a Mach-E and are affected by delays offering some incentives. The email was first shared by a user on the Mach-E forums.

Essentially, the email acknowledges that the company is having trouble meeting delivery targets. Some vehicles will be held back for what Ford is describing as “additional quality checks”—what exactly this entails we’re not sure of yet, and Ford is so far staying mum on the specific issues.

The pertinent part of the email is that Ford is offering certain customers who have experienced more than one delivery delay a $1,000 cash incentive. For other customers, it’s offering 250 kWh of free fast-charging as compensation. And customers who have already received their Mach-Es aren’t left out of the deal, either—the $1,000 offer and charging are also available to them by contacting Ford within a certain timeframe if they meet the criteria. The email also says dealers are aware of the offer.

We reached out to Ford, and a spokesperson responded with a statement that echoes the broad strokes of the customer email. That (revised) statement is as follows:

Quality is a top priority. For Mustang Mach-E customers who have experienced delays receiving their vehicles, we are providing an additional 250 kilowatt-hours of complimentary charging on the FordPass Charging Network. This applies to approximately 4,500 customers, including about 1,500 of whom have already received their Mach-E. In addition, Ford will provide $1,000 toward the purchase of a Mustang Mach-E for approximately 150 customers who have experienced more than one delay due to quality checks.

As you can see from this statement, the issue affects several thousand vehicles, with about 150 experiencing extended delays.

How long will customers have to wait to get their hands on an affected Mach-E? That’s an open question, and one we’re trying to get clarity on. We’ll update this post when we know more.
