Track story:

Welcome to Yongsan Riverside Circuit, one of the few (if any other exists at all) street circuits in Korea, locally famous for hosting the annual RFK event and currently the hosting venues to TCR Asia and Korea's Superrace Championship.

It was 2014, the year after F1 stopped coming to Korea and all the racing there started dying down in some way. Some enthusiastic racing fans created through those days felt they are missing the action and wanted to get them back again. Amongst them were some high-class members working at the technology department in Daejeon, and decided that they would host a weekend-long street racing festival once a year, to attract all fans around and invest on local Korean talents that emerge through the festivals. Thus, Yongsan-Dong and Tamnip-Dong were selected for the RFK - Racing Festival Korea. A street circuit - Yongsan Riverside Circuit - was created, and the riverside remodified to fit in the paddock and pit working zone.

After the modifications were completed, a small showcase event from Superrace (Korea's own racing series) was proven successful, and people from all over the nation joined in to relive those days. The popularity meant that Superrace signed a 5-year contract to host a round there every year, and TCR Asia joined the party in 2018, utilising a smaller modified section. It was then when the festival was extended to a week-long event, so all kinds of showcasing PR events can be held there, with Hyundai using the opportunity to do some rally car photo shooting, promoting the event even more.

in 2019, the first RFTD (Racing Festival Track Day) is held, encouraging people across Korea to bring their own cars to this amazing street circuit, from daily drivers, supercars to modified beasts. All of them raced on the new extension that is about to be used by the Asia Le Mans Series in 2021, when the 2020 event was cancelled due to the pandemic. The track day event was a welcomed addition to the week by the fans, where all the garages were always almost in full swing. A 1-mile street oval with a temporary pitlane was also then finalised and expected to join the 2021 event for a showcase round of Superrace with the Super 6000 class in addition to their own round using the normal circuit. F3 Asia is also expected to come here in 2022 with both Yongsan Riverside Circuit and the Korea International Circuit being added to the calendar.

Well, since this is Korea, any street circuit would probably get an eye from the underground street racing community in addition to whatever the sanctioned officials are planning. With the bonus of being located away from the housing zones so noise is not an issue, Yongsan-Dong soon gained a reputation of "Korea's pinnacle of street racing", with unsanctioned races being held almost every other week. The result? A new small police station to take care of the issue (which doesn't do its job properly anymore thanks to the fans not being happy of the tickets coming from nowhere when they've caused no issue) and a local rising superstar by the name of Pyeon Joon, who's since raced in the Japanese F4 with a P6 finish on his debut.

Daejeon is usually famous for it being the Silicon Valley of Korea, but after all these events, it has gained another name to its title: The heart of Korean street racing.
