You’d be forgiven if you looked at the refreshed 2020 Lexus RX and thought that nothing changed. The subtle exterior tweaks hide more substantial changes under the sheetmetal, many of which will likely make Lexus’ best-selling crossover even more appealing to consumers. Available in two- or three-row configurations, the 2020 Lexus RX aims to cement its place as the best-selling luxury crossover. Here are the most significant updates from the fourth-generation RX’s refresh.
Safety First!
Lexus’ Safety System+ 2.0 now comes standard on all 2020 Lexus RX models. It builds on the previous driver assistance suite by adding features like cyclist detection, low-light pedestrian detection, and lane centering. The latter works together with the adaptive cruise control system to keep the vehicle in its lane on clearly marked streets and highways. When you’re driving on roads with minimal markings, Lane Tracing Assist will follow the vehicle up front instead but only under certain conditions.
More Interior Colors, Cow Hides Now Optional
Leather upholstery no longer comes standard on the 2020 Lexus RX. Instead, you get something called NuLuxe, which is a vinyl-like alternative. You also get additional color schemes including Birch and Circuit Red, the latter being exclusive to F Sport variants.
No, You Don’t Need to Use the Touchpad
In addition to a larger 8.0-inch display becoming standard, the refreshed 2020 RX marks the return of touchscreens to Lexus vehicles. Both the new 8.0-inch unit and the optional 12.3-inch widescreen can now be controlled by touch, which means you don’t need to use the overly sensitive track pad to interface with the infotainment system
Hi, Google and Siri (and Alexa)!
The 2020 Lexus RX is the first model in the luxury brand’s lineup to feature Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration as standard on all models. This gives you access to your Google and iCloud profiles, and enables your smartphone to assume multimedia duty. In addition, Amazon Alexa capability is also offered, provided you download the Lexus+Alexa app on your phone.
Batteries Charged
A modern family-friendly crossover should cater to the needs of its passengers and their mobile devices. The 2020 Lexus RX does exactly that with six USB ports standard on all variants. Running out of juice during long drives should become a thing of the past.
Suspension for Comfort and Stability…
The 2020 Lexus RX gets a number of suspension updates, including the addition of thicker, but hollow, front and rear stabilizer bars. Reinforced bushings, retuned shock absorbers and dampers, stiffer anti-roll bars, and brake-based torque vectoring were all added to improve the RX’s driving experience.
…With Sporting Substance
Lexus has further distinguished the F Sport model even more from the rest of the 2020 RX lineup thanks to the addition of a quicker Active Variable Suspension system and performance-tuned dampers. A new option package specific to the F Sport adds extras like a cold air intake, active sound control, and a retuned electric power steering system.
