1970 McLaren M6GT: In mid 1968 Bruce McLaren was thinking about making a coupè version of his Championship-Winning Can Am car to givethe Lola T70s a run for their money but the new body didn't bring them success and to make matters worse FIA brought in new rules stating that, McLaren had to build 50 identical M6GT's in order to compete with Ferrari, Porsche and Alfa Romeo. This made Bruce scrap the idea of making the M6GT. But he hadn't totally given up, in early 1970s he merged an empty M6GT body with a stock M6B chassis and it had a Chevrolet V8 tuned by Bartz and it had a top speed of 165 MPH according to Bruce McLaren.
Specifications- Engine: 5.7L V8 Power: 370 Hp Weight: 1764 LB Top Speed: 165 MPH
Main Highlights- It had a Chevrolet V8 tuned by Bartz Only 3 examples were made Bruce McLaren wanted to make it the fastest road car
1993 McLaren F1: First let's talk about the design of the F1, it was designed by Gordon Murray, he was waiting for a flight home from the Italian Grand Prix in 1988, Murray drew a sketch of a three seater sports car and proposed it to Ron Dennis, they had an idea of creating the Ultimate Supercar which will be influenced by Formula 1 and it's technology, it's design doesn't fail to impress the public. Chief Engineer Gordon Murray and all other Supercar manufacturers had a recipe to make a great car, i.e, low weight and high on power which means the power to weight ratio would be high and that is what they wanted, that is exactly what the people at McLaren did, they used high tech and expensive materials like Gold,Kevlar,Carbon Fibre, Titanium and Magnesium. It's was also the first car to use a Carbon Fibre monocoque chassis. The Carbon Fibre body panels and monocoque required significant heat insulation in the engine compartment, so in order to overcome this problem Murray used 25 grams of Gold foil and it was used in the lining of the engine bay. Now onto the heart of the F1, it had a 6.1L V12 from BMW's M division which produced 627 BHP, the engine's block and head was made out of an aluminium alloy.
Specifications- Engine: BMW S70/2 6.1L V12 Power: 627 BHP Weight: 2513 LB Top Speed: 240 MPH
Main Highlights- It was the fastest road car ever made Only 106 Examples were made and one of them was owned by Rowan Atkinson It had a BMW V12 The driver's seat was in the center
1995 McLaren F1 LM: The F1 LM was made to celebrate their Victory in the 24 Hours of Let Mans and McLaren describes it as "An untamed Le Mans race car with number plates", and this statement is true,it looks very much like the race car but with this one you can drive it around. The body kit almost completely sourced from the race car like the roof scoop, big rear wing, rear diffuser and the vented front fenders. The only difference between the race car and the LM is the front bumper, it's layout remained the same, the center vents got a mesh and and the splitter was made bigger. Also to make this car more special, "GTR-24 Heures du Mans Winners 1995", this statement was engraved on the Carbon fiber rear wing. All of these cars were painted in McLaren Orange as a tribute to Bruce McLaren The LM's cockpit shares a lot of its components with the race car, for example the center mounted seat in the race car was made of Carbon Fibre and the same seat is present in the LM This one got Alcantara pads in order to make it more comfortable and the F1 GTR got a huge fuse box in the right side foot well but in the LM it was made smaller to make space for more legroom. The F1 LM got the same engine as the F1 GTR, the 6.1L V12 but in the LM it had no race-mandated restrictors.
Specifications- Engine: BMW S70/3 Power: 680 HP Weight: 2341 LB Top Speed: 225 MPH
Main Highlights- Only 5 examples were made It used the same engine that was used in the F1 GTR It was made to celebrate McLaren's win at Le Mans
