lamboblogging

prompted into action by /u/goldisaur's list and suggestion for others to post their own, here's what i listened to most in 2017. the science here is inexact, but i'm pretty sure this is it.

fair warning, i'm just emerging from a period where pretty much all i listened to was female vocals. i've only recently rediscovered some stuff with male leads that i've taken a fancy to. balloon at dawn was a near miss on the list, but they came on a little late. huge fan of a bunch of their songs, led by 'our blue'. and roundabout october, i wandered into a band called the fin. some great late 80's/early 90's-esque new wave music that i'm really digging. so a similar list for me for 2018 might be a little bit more diverse.

there's plenty of stuff in my history with male vocals, led by supercar, ellegarden (and related bands), and tmge. i mean, and the cure and new order, if you want to go back that far. i also dig sakanaction, oral cigarettes, radwimps, and other similar bands, but nothing that really gets a ton of play for me.

anyway, here's what i listened to most in 2017. not a male vocal to be found:

  1. bonjour suzuki - close to me - spotify link - the song and artist that most took me by surprise how much i like it and her. it just feels so non-standard for me.

  2. wisely brothers - maple canada - youtube link - this one makes more sense to me. it's right up my alley.

  3. taguchi hana - beer - youtube link - graduated idol. not usually my gig either. but i really dig this song. count it as another surprise for me.

  4. kinoko teikoku - virgin suicide - youtube link - this song really hit home for me after i actually read along with a subbed upload. jumped to the top of my playlist about two years ago, and has stayed near.

  5. daoko - negative monster - youtube link - love daoko

  6. daoko (again) - daisuki- youtube link - this one faded more quickly, but around the middle of the year, i was repeat playing this a lot.

  7. macaroom - kaijyuu - youtube link - a later entry, but came on real strong in the second half of the year

  8. i love me - urusai na wakatteru - youtube link - for me this song is just so poppy and happy. i like that in a song once in a while.

  9. spool - sway, fadeaway - youtube link - shoegaze/dreampop that i'd expect to have been on this list more.

  10. heavenstamp - ai wo komete, wendy - youtube link - never heard of these guys until someone posted this in like june. i'm hooked on them now.

near misses - kinoko teikoku - ai no yuku e, wakusei abnormal - muteki no lover, negoto - mercirou, tricot - artsick, balloon at dawn - our blue
