This is Gordon Murray’s Next Car

Back in October, Gordon Murray, the famous designer of the legendary McLaren F1, announced plans to start his own car company. At the time, all we really knew was that the car would be lightweight and use Murray’s iStream manufacturing process. Today, we get a look at what the car will look like thanks to a shadowy new teaser image.

As you can see in the tweet and the lead image that we brightened for clarity, the car is clearly mid-engined with lines that are reminiscent of the original F1. Like the F1, it will also get an air scoop on the roof, although this one appears to be much more pronounced. At the moment, Murray hasn’t given his new car a name, but the company will be called IGM for his full name, Ian Gordon Murray.

In a release, Gordon Murray Automotive says the new car will be “inspired by the engineering principles of the McLaren F1” but will be “built for contemporary driving conditions, and will incorporate some of the most advanced aerodynamics yet seen on a road car.” To keep weight down, it will be built on what Murray calls the “iStream superlight” platform, a modified version of the iStream method that replaces steel sections with high-strength aluminum. The resulting car is allegedly a full 50 percent lighter than one built using stamped metal.
