2019 Range Rover P400e Can Travel 31 Miles in EV Mode

Following the reveal of the Range Rover Sport PHEV, Land Rover is debuting a plug-in version of its bigger luxury SUV. The 2019 Range Rover P400e broke cover today and is expected to go on sale in the U.S. next summer.

The Range Rover P400e features a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 296 hp and an electric motor good for 114 hp. This 85-kilowatt-hour motor is located in the eight-speed ZF transmission in the center of the vehicle alongside a 7-kW on-board charger. With the help of a 13.1-kWh lithium-ion battery, the model produces a total output of 398 hp and 472 lb-ft of torque. Range Rover estimates a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 137 mph.

Drivers can choose to use power from both the engine and motor or travel in EV-only mode. In this mode, the Rover can chug along for 31 miles without the help of the gas engine, although top speed is just 85 mph.

A SAVE function prevents the battery charge from dropping below a pre-selected level, and when juices are low, it commands the vehicle to use the electric motor only once enough energy has been recuperated through regenerative braking or charging. A separate function decides how to use the engine and motor in an economical way based on the route entered into the navigation system, increasing fuel economy.

Alongside the new PHEV, Land Rover has introduced a host of updates to the rest of the Range Rover lineup. Model-year 2018 Range Rovers usher in an updated grille, new front bumper with bigger vent blades, and a longer clamshell hood. Also look for updates to the vent graphics, lower side accents, and rear bumper.

Like the updated Sport, the Range Rover gets a two-touchscreen system up front. One 10-inch screen controls infotainment functions, while the lower screen is in charge of climate and seat settings. Other new available features include 24-way adjustable front seats with massage functions and a gesture-controlled sunblind.

Also for the 2018 model year, the top-of-the-line Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic produces 557 hp, up from 550 hp. Reaching 60 mph should take just 5.1 seconds in this model.
