Earlier this year, Volkswagen introduced a longer, more comprehensive warranty on the new Atlas and Tiguan. Now, it’s spreading the love to more models in the 2018 lineup. The 6-year/72,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty will now be offered on the 2018 Volkswagen Beetle, Golf, Jetta, and Passat ranges.
Called the People First Warranty, the coverage is fully transferable within the warranty period. So no matter how many times the vehicle changes hands in those six years, the warranty goes with it. Just as it does for Atlas and Tiguan, the warranty covers all powertrain and drivetrain components, including the engine, transmission, and 4Motion all-wheel drive system, when equipped. The new warranty replaces the 3-year/36,000-mile powertrain warranty Volkswagen previously offered.
The People First Warranty can be had on both the Beetle and Beetle Convertible, the standard Golf, Golf GTI, Golf R, Golf SportWagon, and Golf Alltrack, the Passat, and the Jetta. That leaves only the e-Golf, CC, and recycled last-gen Tiguan Limited un-covered by the new warranty, though the 2018 versions of those cars have yet to be announced.
Given Volkswagen’s wide-reaching diesel scandal, it’s going to need to work harder than before to get customers back in dealer show rooms. Offering a better warranty on almost every model it sells could go a long way in restoring some of the trust it has lost.
