Ford Fiesta ST Not Coming Back to U.S.

When Ford introduced the hotted-up Fiesta ST to the U.S. back in 2013, it quickly made a name for itself as one of the most affordable ways to have an absolute blast behind the wheel. So when Ford introduced the new Fiesta ST, we got excited. Unfortunately for Stateside fans of the tiny hot hatch, Ford has officially said the new car won’t find its way across the pond.

Speaking to Car Buzz at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Leo Roeks, head of Ford Performance in Europe, said the automaker just can’t make the numbers work. “It’s simply a matter of a lack of interest in the B segment in America,” Roeks said. “It doesn’t make sense, nor is it possible financially speaking, to import a single trim level, and a niche one at that.” Basically, this is our fault for not buying enough Fiestas. Shame on us.

Also, don’t expect to see Ford offer all-wheel drive on the Fiesta ST. “It would completely change its overall dynamics,” Roeks told Car Buzz.

So there you have it. If you had your heart set on buying the new Fiesta ST, you better be ready to move to Europe for it. Granted, this news shouldn’t be much of a surprise. Ford’s long silence on whether or not the car would be imported may as well have been confirmation that it wasn’t coming. But without the official word saying it definitely wasn’t coming, we could still hope. Now those dreams are dashed.

But hey, at least we got the Fiesta ST for one generation. We should be grateful Ford even gave us that.
