Watch Two Veteran Racers Flog the Porsche 911 GT2 RS on Track

The highly anticipated Porsche 911 GT2 RS was recently unveiled, and its specs have us salivating for an opportunity to get behind the wheel. To whet our appetites, Porsche released a video showing what the most powerful 911 can do in the hands of two veteran race car drivers: two-time WRC champ Walter Röhrl and ex-F1 and Le Mans driver Mark Webber.

In the video, Webber flogs the GT2 RS around Circuit Paul Ricard before handing the keys to Walter Röhrl, who is Porsche’s senior test driver in addition to being a seasoned racer. While Webber drives with the precision you’d expect of a World Endurance champion, Röhrl is happy to take the less efficient line and throw in some opposite lock. Webber ends up achieving a faster lap time, but Röhrl claimed to have “more fun” as he slid the car around.

If you’re unfamiliar with the latest variant of the 991.2, the juicy details released so far are as follows: A twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six will produce an ungodly 700 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque that will power the rear wheels only. Grip will present a challenge, but 325/30ZR21 rear tires will hopefully help mitigate the problem. On-paper performance leaves nothing to be desired, with a 211-mph top speed and acceleration to 60 mph estimated in 2.7 seconds. The car is relatively light at 3,241 pounds, but the price is substantial; prices start at $294,250 and buyers will have to be on Porsche’s shortlist to get one when it arrives early next year.

We cannot wait to get our hands on the new 911 GT2 RS. Stay tuned for our first drive, but until then check out the video below for a preview of what the car is capable of.
