If you’ve seen Gymkhana 8, you know that famous automotive donut-doer Ken Block’s rally-prepped Fiesta ST RX43 isn’t afraid of a little sand. But in Block’s latest video, this time called Terrakhana, he takes the desert shenanigans to a whole new level. Instead of dabbling in a little off-roading, the 650-hp rally hatch gets treated like it’s a trophy truck as Block blasts through Swing Arm City in Utah.
Was the whole video paid for by Pennzoil? Absolutely. Terrakhana is a commercial for engine oil. But there’s no rule that says five minutes of overt product placement can’t still be cool. And while this might not be as groundbreaking as some of Block’s earlier videos, it’s definitely cool. That’s not only because a 650-hp, all-wheel-drive rally Fiesta that can hit 60 mph in less than 2 seconds is always awesome. It definitely is. But Block also manages to pull off some pretty incredible stunts once he cuts loose in the desert.
And as much fun as the current Ford Fiesta ST is, the 197-hp hot hatch that won us over back in 2013 is way tamer than this all-wheel-drive rally monster. Unless you have a huge budget for off-road modifications, it’s probably best to keep your own hot hatch on the road and leave the desert shenanigans to Ken Block.
