Lamborghini Urus Test Mule Might be Spied with Production Body

Wrapped in a swirling camouflage, a test mule spotted at Munich airport suggests that Lambo appears to have hit the ground and running with the upcoming Urus SUV. It has been speculated as Urus prototype as the tape applied above front grille reads 'Lamborghini'. If it gives a glimpse of how the production Urus might look like, we are certainly not pleased considering the flamboyance of the Italian supercar maker.

Its CEO Stephan Winkelmann confirmed earlier that the company's first-ever SUV, the Urus, will be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. The company is well-known for its roaring V10s and V12s throughout its illustrious history but the bigger engines have started to slowly being phased out across the auto industry sighting the inability for them to stay in compliance with increasingly stricter emission standards.

As a result, downsizing has become the order of the day with many top-notch automakers opting to go with turbocharged engines which give out healthier performance as well as sticking to emission regulations. Lamborghini's first 4×4 since the advent of LM002 will ditch the naturally aspirated V10s and V12s found in Huracan and Aventador sports cars.

Instead of the big vees, a t win-turbocharged eight-cylinder unit with a displacement capacity of 4,000cc will be utilised. In addition to the turbocharged power plant's advantage of emitting less Carbon dioxides, the low-end torque and the extensive power spread across the rev range will benefit the off-roading capabilities of the SUV.

A plug-in hybrid version is also set to be in the cards in the future whilst Lamborghini is determined to stick with the all-wheel drive ethos. The production version of the Urus SUV is expected to be unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show and a few months later it will grace the Lamborghini showrooms across the globe as India is also identified as a primary target market where luxury car sales is booming ever year.

For the annual production capacity of 3,000 units, Lamborghini intended to hire 500 more employees whilst expanding its facility in Sant'Agata Bolognese plant from 80,000 Sq. metres to around 150,000 Sq. metres. A spurred up Superveloce model has also not been ruled out in the years following its launch.urusSource: Twitter
